Jaime Cavazos, MS, CSCS

Nationally recognized as a Certified, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Jaime Cavazos is the owner and founder of Cavazos Sports Institute.

Born and raised in the RGV, He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Sports Science in 2006 and earned his CSCS certification. The CSCS is regarded as the “gold standard” of training certifications and recognizes those individuals who possess the knowledge and skills to design and implement sport specific training programs for athletes using modern, cutting edge research and proven scientific methods.

Jaime Started training athletes in 2005, while simultaneously serving as a kinesiology instructor at UTPA, and head strength and conditioning coach for the Division 1 Schools athletic teams. Since 2005, Jaime has helped nearly 100 RGV student athletes earn athletic scholarships at the college level. 35% of those athletes have gone to compete at Division 1 Universities. In late 2015, Jaime opened up the new CSI – a 20,000 sq. ft. state of art sports performance training facility in McAllen, TX.

Mire Chatman, 13 Year European Pro

Regarded as one of the top point guards in the world playing outside of the NBA, Mire Chatman had a stand out collegiate career at UTPA earning an array of accolades including Independent Player of the Year, All American Honorable Mention, Independent Defensive Player of the Year, All – Independent team, UTPA Male Student Athlete of the year, and ranked third in the NCAA in scoring average at 26pts per game, to name a few.

With his elite skills, basketball IQ, and dedication, Chatman received the opportunity to play 13 years professionally in Europe. He eventually became European basketball’s all-time leader in points, performance rating, steals, free throw attempts, free throws made, fouls drawn, named MVP on several occasions and became the all-time leading scorer in Eurocup history.

Laura Cavazos, Former D1 Setter/D1 Volleyball Coach

Coach Laura has specialized in volleyball as long as she can remember. Having played club volleyball for over 8 years, Laura was able to have 2 standout seasons as a setter for Panola Junior College and averaged nearly 5 assists per set, earning her a NJCAA Region 14 All Conference selection.

She finished her next 2 seasons at Division 1 Prairie View A&M. As a team captain, Laura was also a conference champion of the South Western Athletic Conference, earning an NCAA tournament appearance in 2006.

Her sought after knowledge and experience landed her the first assistant volleyball coaching position at UTPA. Coach Angela Hubbard and Laura have had one of the most successful programs in UTPA volleyball history. Coach Laura is currently the head volleyball coach at Sharyland Pioneer High School.

Saleena Rojas, BS, NASM

Saleena is a graduate of UTPA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics. She is s Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Saleena also has a group exercise certification from AAFA, and is a Les Mills certified instructor. Prior to founding SRfit, Saleena used her knowledge and gained experience working for various public gyms in the RGV. She is also an NPC Bikini Competitor. In April 2016, she competed in her second WNBF Professional Bikini competition, making a finals appearance in Washington, D.C.
